This week has gone by pretty quickly, which is quite amazing. I had my first Bio quiz on Wednesday, went better than expected. Then again, I spent like 4 hours studying with Tommy and other random people in the basement of Brown on Tuesday, so one would hope that I would feel pretty good about the test. Just a couple of questions were weird...like I knew what it was talking about but didn't understand entirely what the question wanted from me. But overall, I feel good about it.
Also had my first solfege "test." Solfege is like sightsinging except using the do-re-mi-fa-sol etc. I'm fine with singing something but the syllables mess me up. Instead, I just wrote all the syllables underneath the notes so that I wouldn't get all tongue tied and then practiced in the Brittle lounge (it sits between Brown and Little...hence Brittle) with Jason for like 2 hours. I thought the professor would call us out individually to sing certain little exercises, but instead he grouped us into groups of 6 and then would say "Group 1, sing 17" or "Even groups, sing 3." Made me feel a lot better about it.
I went to DinerToure this week, which is a part of Cabin and Trail. Each week they schedule a trip to a somewhat close by diner where we all go and get delicious breakfast. This week we went to Stella's in Hartland, VT. Needless to say, we left at 6:30 in the morning so that we could go, eat, and get back in time for 8:45 classes. I was questioning the whole way over why I was awake, but once I ate the chocolate chip pancakes...I was hooked. SO GOOD. Def gonna be doing DinerToure like every week.
The saddest thing of this week was missing Dad :( He came to Boston yesterday on a business trip and said that he could make it out here by 5, which would be perfect since fencing ended at 5 and DSO started at 7. But then he got put in a meeting which ended at 5 so the earliest he could get here would be 7...and DSO is pretty strict on attendance (they told us to talk to our professors now if we have conflicts with midterms...yeah.) So I didn't get to see Dad which definitely put a damper on the day since I was so excited for it throughout the week.
In fencing we actually have started using weapons! And we get to wear the coats, masks, and gloves. I feel like Lindsay Lohan in "The Parent Trap" whenever I go to class now. And my teacher legitimately said "SUIT UP!" to the class and I was the only one who laughed...why doesn't anybody watch How I Met Your Mother around here?!
Math is still as boring as ever. We FINALLY got to derivatives today, which is quite an improvement from the basic algebra we were learning at the beginning of the quarter.
I think I'm starting to get used to living here. I'm getting used to the idea of this room being my home (though it's still weird to have to shower with flip-flops on.) I'm getting a schedule down almost though the time that I go to bed still varies quite a bit depending on the classes of the next day. However, I always get my work done, get up in time for a shower and breakfast every morning, study when I need to, and do lots of extracurricular things. I also am starting to get a really good group of friends which is pretty comforting. No more questioning who I'll be going to meals with or what I'm going to be doing. It's almost like I'm home :)
